When: Friday, October 1, 2021
Where: Online, by Zoom 8:00am
Presentation:
Geothermal Design and Construction | A Case Study of 575 Princess Street, Kingston
Nastassja Pearson, Development Manager, Podium Developments
Graeme Smith, Project Manager, Podium Developments
Although not new technology, utilizing a geothermal loop to provide heating and cooling to a multi unit residential building is still not common practice – but it’s a design approach that’s slowly gaining traction given its efficiency and ability to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of a building.
Using 575 Princess St. as an example, this presentation will discuss:
- How geothermal heating and cooling systems work;
- What variables and decisions need to be factored in when designing the system;
- How the system is installed;
- The impacts soil and site conditions may have on install; and
- What we expect through operation.
"575 Princess Street will be the first large multifamily residential building in Kingston to utilize a geothermal energy source, lowering the building’s carbon footprint, increasing energy efficiency, and further advancing Kingston’s commitment to sustainability."
