The City of Kingston’s Facilities Management & Construction Services department is excited to share information about their ongoing journey to transition municipal facilities to Net Zero Energy by 2040 in alignment with the City’s Climate Leadership Plan. This presentation will provide a inside account of past work and achievements, current projects and innovative partnerships, future plans, challenges, and opportunities.
Russell Horne is a 2016 St. Lawrence College Energy Systems Engineering Technology (ESET) graduate with diverse experience in facilities and passion for sustainable energy management. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Certified Energy Manger (CEM), and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP). As Supervisor, Energy & Asset Management for the City of Kingston’s Facilities Management & Construction Services department, Russell provides oversight of various platforms critical to ongoing operation of facilities. He is responsible for centralized energy management activities, leading various sustainability initiatives, and is a senior driving force for the ongoing transition of City facilities to net zero energy by 2040. Russell is also a part time professor for the St. Lawrence College ESET program.
Dan Korneluk is a 2006 Queen’s University Civil Engineering graduate with more than fifteen years experience working on multidisciplinary projects within both the private sector as well as local government. In his current role as Manager, Energy & Asset Management for the City of Kingston’s Facilities Management & Construction Services department, Dan is responsible for advancing a centralized energy and asset management framework which supports capital improvements while aiming to significantly reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from all municipal facilities. This work involves strategic planning and leadership of various programs, including capital construction projects related to sustainability, facility renewals and restoration, as well as full life-cycle asset management planning for the City’s diverse portfolio of buildings.
