CARBON MINERALIZATION - THE HYPERION CASE STUDY
The conversion of CO2 into minerals is a natural process. Can we exploit this chemistry to produce new building materials with stored embodied CO2? The Ottawa based Hyperion team has been working with Lafarge at the Bath Cement plant to develop their novel technology to produce precipitated calcium carbonate. An overview of the pilot and other mineralization strategies will be provided by Robert Cumming, Lafarge Eastern Canada's Head of Sustainability, Environment and Public Affairs.

P.Eng is an experienced professional advancing sustainability in the industrial sector for over 30 years. He is currently heading up Sustainability, Environment, and Public Affairs for Lafarge Eastern Canada. Lafarge is Canada’s largest provider of sustainable construction materials and a member of the global group, Holcim. With 6,000 employees and 350 sites across Canada, Lafarge Canada's mission is to provide construction solutions that build progress for people and the planet. He leads a team of dedicated sustainability professionals, champions decarbonization projects, advances public policy towards green procurement and carbon pricing systems, and instills ESG principles in an industrial sector.
